Instron Picture

The Richard S. Reynolds, Jr. Comparative Orthopedic Research Laboratory features the Instron 1331 mechanical tester. This servohydraulic, closed-loop system generates loads of up to 100,000 newtons of force via 3000 psi of hydraulic pressure.

The Instron creates tension and/or compression in cyclic or single cycle loads. Various materials are tested including bone and soft tissue, as well as engineer materials such as metals and polymers used for fixation of bone in treating fractures.

The Mechanical Testing Laboratory also includes a computer connection for data collection and an instrumentation section.

This is all made possible by a gift from The Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation, Inc.
